A man living in rural Wisconsin takes care of his bed-ridden mother, who is very domineering and teaches him that all women are evil. After she dies he misses her, so a year later he digs her up and takes her home. He learns about taxidermy and begins robbing graves to get materials to patch her up, and inevitably begins looking for fresher sources of materials. Based closely on the true story of Ed Gein.

Beware the MGM Midnite Movies disc as I've read it may possibly be edited.

Other than that... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! cheers

Cut... but still awesome.

How much of a difference between the cut and uncut versions?

Haven't seen the MM release so I can't say exactly what.

But what I've read says a bunch of Savini's gore was cut.

You can probably find an uncut version pretty easily if you poke around.

I watched this last night...I really enjoyed it, actually, even if it is a 'cut' version. The lead guy is a dead ringer for Ed Gein (of course)...the pace is perfect and creepy, and the odd bits of Savini gore are decent. The ending is great, it really made the whole movie for me. Overall i'd say a 7/10. My only drawbacks are the obvious connections to the Ed Gein story and TCM, but that's only because it took so long for me to finally see it.

Motel Hell was also very good (the other side of this two-pack), but that's another thread altogether...

Being connected to the Gein story is a drawback?

The film is, and was meant to be a dramatization of that story, just with the names changed.

It's probably the most faithful film to the real events.

The Steve Railsback ED GEIN flick was pure ass.

Haven't seen the Kane Hodder one...and I ain't in no big hurry to see it either.

I loved it. It had a very gritty feeling. 8.5/10

Contemplated getting the Double Feature DVD with Motel Hell.

Now I'm apprehensive.

I should clarify....what i meant was that there are now a zillion Ed Gein wanna-be movies, and i've just about had my fill of skin lampshades and family dinners with corpses. That's what I meant when i said it took so long for me to see...I just kept thinking "i've seen this a hundred times before"...

However, I realize it was one of the first (and yes best) representations of Gein, and I really enjoyed the hell out of it.

Love this film, Tom Savini's work is great.. Ive got the uncut version which can be found on a dvd from Germany, the audio is in English and so are all the extra's with removable subtitles. You can find it floating around on Ebay!!! Beware U.S. buyers its a region 2.
MOTEL HELL is also available uncut from Germany on the Rabbit label, this is also Region 2.
